Eric Carle

Eric Carle is the acclaimed creator of brilliantly illustrated and innovatively designed picture books for very young children, among which The Very Hungry Caterpillar is his best-known. Born in New York, he studied art at the Akademie der bildenden Künste in Stuttgart and later returned to America to start his professional career. Eric worked as a graphic designer for The New York Times and as an art director of an advertising agency. He has illustrated more than seventy books, which have sold more than 110 million copies around the world. The secret of his books’ appeal lies in Eric’s intuitive understanding of and respect for children, who sense that he shares their most cherished thoughts and emotions.
